Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Lead Awareness

Protective Work Clothing and Equipment  

If an employee is exposed to lead above the PEL, without regard to the use of regard to the use of respirators or where the possibility of skin or eye irritation exists, employer shall provide at no cost and assure that the employee uses appropriate protective clothing and equipment.

Protective clothing includes:

  • Coveralls or similar full-body clothing.
  • Gloves, hats, and shoes or disposable shoe coverlets.
  • Face shields, vented goggles, or other appropriate protective equipment which complies with 29 CFR 1910.133.
  • Protective articles must be clean and dry condition at least weekly and/or daily.

The employer shall provide the following:

  • Employer shall provide for the cleaning, laundering, or disposal of protective clothing and equipment.
  • Employer shall replace, or repair required protective and equipment as needed to maintain their effectiveness.
  • Employer shall assure that all lead contaminated clothing and equipment cleaned and disposed of properly.
  • Employer shall inform in writing any person who cleans or launders the lead contaminated clothing and equipment.

CAUTION!!!

  • Do not remove dust by blowing or shaking.
  • Dispose of lead contaminated wash water in accordance with applicable local, state, or federal regulations.
